Installing Fitrix

 

The Fitrix software has to be installed on your Linux server system. You will also need to install the Fitrix client software on each client to be used (i.e. MS-Windows). We have provided short hand installation instructions for experienced users, or click on the links to detailed instructions for a full step-by-step guide to installing the products. Instructions for un-installing are provided as well.

 

The Linux Host Installation: (required)

 

Short Hand Installation instructions:

o        Note: these are the short hand instructions for technically oriented users, If you need detailed instructions, click here

o        Please review the Fitrix Linux Server Minimum Requirements at http://www.fitrix.com/technologyrequirements2.html and ensure that all required packages have been installed and all other requirements met.

o        Download the preinstall check out script to your linux host and run it to confirm all prerequisites are met. The script and other pre-installation resources can be found at http://www.fitrix.com/support/fitrix.linux.basic/overview.html

o        Access a character (text) window on the Linux Host

o        Log in as root (or 'su' to root)

o        Create a group ‘informix’ (/usr/sbin/groupadd informix)

o        Create a user ‘informix’, as member of group ‘root’ (useradd  -m  -G  root  informix)

o        To install from CD-ROM, mount the first disk.

o        Mount the Fitrix CD (mount  -o  ro  -t  iso9660  /dev/cdrom  /mnt/cdrom)

1.     Note: On some systems the “cdrom” directory may be under '/media'.

2.     Note: On some operating systems the “cdrom” directory is not there. The user can either create it or use “/mnt” instead

1.     For Red Hat Enterprise and SUSI you will need to create the cdrom directory 1st:

cd /mnt; mkdir cdrom; chmod 777 cdrom

o        cd /mnt/cdrom/server

o        continue below at “Start the installation Script” if installing from cdrom

o        To install from an FTP download (or hard disk install)

o       Before you can install from an FTP download, you must receive a Fitrix license email from Fourth Generation Software. This will contain the FTP download instructions and your Fitrix license keys

o        cd /var/opt/fitrixmedia (this should be the location that you selected during the download)

o        cd server

o        Start the installation Script

o        . ./install.sh

 

o        The installation process will log it's actions, and you will be prompted for several responses

o        Your Fitrix Software serial numbers and serial key codes are located on the back of the Fitrix Software CD

o        Install script notes:

o        Install Four J’s runtime? – answer yes if your Fitrix CD has a serial number and key for a Four J’s runtime

o        (it will unless it is a developer only cd)

o        any of the installation steps are logged under /fitrix/logs

o        Don’t forget to write down the port numbers reported at the end of the server installation, you will need these for the client installations (you can find these later under: /fitrix/logs/info.log

o        Do not forget to email us the codes and complete your permanent licensing

To Uninstall:

o        Log in as ‘root’ (or ‘su’ to ‘root)

o        /fitrix/bin/uninstall.sh

o        Or, follow the Detailed Uninstall instructions

 

The Windows Client Installation:

(If you plan to use a Windows PC to access Fitrix, follow these instructions to install the Fitrix Thin Client software on each Windows PC to be used.)

Before a Windows Client can be installed, the Fitrix Windows Client Install Point must be installed:

(normally the install point is installed on a server accessible by all clients)

Before you can log on, you will need for your Linux systems administrator to set up individual login accounts for each user, follow the user account requirements here

To Uninstall:

          UnInstall each workstation:

o        Launch: Start à Programs à Four J's GDC 2.00.1d - 2001d à Genero Desktop Client Uninstallation

o        Launch: Start à Programs à Four J's GDC 2.00.1d - 2001d à Visual Menus Uninstall

o        Next use the standard Windows 'Add/Remove' option on the control panel to remove 'Fitrix …'

o        From Windows Explorer delete the entire Fitrix directory-- C:\Program Files\FourJs\gdc-2001d

o        Or, follow the Detailed Uninstall instructions

UnInstall the Install point:

o        At the Windows Server, launch: Start à Programs à Fitrix Install Point à Uninstall

o        Or, follow the Detailed Uninstall instructions
